7th September update
Welcome to September’s latest update on our Cornerstone Centre development. With the festival period over, the lower terrace has been cleared of the stalls and food and drink stands. Cornerstone Bookshop has been attracting a steady stream of customers as people adjust to its new location downstairs after having been based in the portakabin so long. The One World Shop is preparing to open in the next few weeks!
In the remaining building area, works continues downstairs in terms of preparing the flooring, water and electrical supplies. The walls and ducting for the service lift are complete and work is continuing in the cafe area. There has been some delays to the completion of the steel framework around the new lift and staircase. John Dennis, the builders, are doing everything they can to get things moving, but it will mean a knock-on effect in terms of completion. We are now expecting the hand over to happen at the end of November and are eagerly awaiting confirmation of the revised schedule later this week. After so many years in the pipeline, it is getting really exciting as we begin to see the end of the building phase!
In terms of the upper terrace, the masonry for the new doorway into the dormitory and east gable archway has been finished; and the hall extension has been covered in ply wood in readiness for the exterior masonry. The extension curtain walling is complete and the roof slates are ready to be fitted this week and next. Some of the electrical works are being carried out beneath the new mezzanine floor and will continue over the next few weeks. All in all, a lot has been accomplished on site recently, as you can see in the photos below. We will hopefully see steel framing works completed soon so things can move along quickly into the final phase for our new Cornerstone Centre!
