27th June update
Welcome to another update on the development of the new Cornerstone Centre at St John’s in Edinburgh! The first few photos below show the storage space behind the first retail unit, along with the soon to be completed retail spaces. These areas are being formally handed over by the contractor to us this Friday – hurray!
The Cornerstone Bookshop, currently housed in the Portakabin upstairs, will soon be moving in downstairs and plan to open in mid-July. The One World Shop, currently in temporary premises on Nicholson Street, will be returning too. They hope to fit out their shop in the coming couple of months and aim to open in early September. The tenant for the third retail space is still being negotiated, details will be shared soon.
The fourth image below shows workers installing the new steel frame for the lift shaft – this area is still very much a building site! With the more westerly areas nearing completion, work is now focussed on the eastern end of the terraces – as you can see in the fifth and sixth images.
The stone masons are back in the Hall rebuilding the new opening for the extension and wooden joists are being added to the steel frame as part of the wall and roof construction. Inside the Hall, a tantalising glimpse of the new mezzanine is emerging as the steel supporting joists are going in.
The final image shows the view down the stairs from Lothian Road. This is soon to be cleared of debris and a new security fence installed half-way down to section off the remaining building works from the shop area. Watch this space for more updates and do please get in touch if you have any questions or would like to enquire about using the new Hall and meeting rooms.
