18th August update
Cornerstone Centre august 2017 update. The latest news about the building works is that is now appears we will be getting the keys from the contractors in November. This is a slight delay on what we had hoped for, but is to be expected with a development of this size. The recent delays have mostly been down to the installation of the steel framework around the lift, which had been held up, but are now well underway, but it’s had a knock-on effect for the subsequent stages. We are having to adjust our plans for the opening celebrations and in terms of taking external venue bookings, but patience is a virtue as they say! We will keep you updated as we get closer to the hand over date and final opening dates.
The new Hall extension is really taking shape now as you can see from the photos below. The stonemasons have finished their work of building the new arch to replace the east gable wall which was moved to form the new side entrance to the west off Lothian Road. The glazing and new roof are really coming along now and we are beginning to get a sense of just how light and spacious the completed area will be. Downstairs, the flooring of the café area continues to be worked on – it is raised off the ground in order to accommodate the underfloor electrics and cabling etc.
If you haven’t yet done so, do come and check out the food stalls, café and bar in St John’s grounds during August – and take a look at Just Festival’s programme for the rest of the month! Their shows have been really well received this year and there are still lots of interesting things happening between now and the 27th. Finally, thanks to everyone who has been in touch enquiring about room hires – we welcome any enquiry and will do our best to accommodate you, or point you in the right direction if we can’t help with your needs.
