16th June update
The latest news update to share is that the building works in the retail units have been almost completed all bar a few minor things that need tidying up! The new security doors look great and the lighting really modernises the new spaces. Watch this space for updates in terms of when the shops will be reopening! Preparations are underway for the portakabin that is currently occupied by the Cornerstone Bookshop to be removed in mid-July. In the other areas, work is continuing with the lift shaft area being tanked and the floor readied for the concrete to be poured in readiness for the final floor covering. Upstairs, the builders have been progressing with the joisting works that surround the steel framework.
We have had confirmation however that the build handover will be delayed until mid or late October – this was due to unforeseen circumstances such as the archaeological works taking longer than anticipated and a section of the steel frame needing to be re-manufactured. However, as we enter into the final phases of the work, there are fewer ‘unknowns’ to contend with and we are hopeful this revised timeline will be maintained.
